This strategic location has consolidated this port as a first-rate logistics hub with more than thirty shipping lines connecting to over 180 ports around the world. The Port of La Luz in Gran Canaria is the largest in the Canary Islands and one of the most important freight distribution links in Spain. It currently has almost 16 kilometers of berthing lines, distributed among all its docks, with depths ranging from 3 to 45 meters.
Among the advantages offered by this port are its long-standing relationship with shipping companies from around the world, ties built over the years; its availability of state-of-the-art facilities; and the flexibility and versatility of its services. All of this has contributed to the current standing of the Port of La Luz in Gran Canaria as a logistics hub for containers and other international commercial cargo and as a service station for vessels plying Atlantic routes, primarily in ship supply, fishing, ship repairs (specializing in the offshore sector), and fuel supply. In this last segment of activity, this port is a leader in Spain and is already known as the "gas station of the Atlantic." In 2018, 2,330,190 tons of gas were supplied. Looking to the future, work is already underway on facilities and means for the supply of liquefied natural gas to vessels.

In 2016, the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife was included among the three main ports in the world for cruise traffic according to Seatrade Cruise Med.
